Being a professional footballer would be the dream for many, the life style we usually dream of as a youngster, and this is exactly what Leon McKenzie had. He retired from football 3 years ago after a career of ups and downs, promotion to the premier league and digressing back down to the leagues he once came through.
McKenzie had battled mental health and admitted even trying to take his life whilst playing at Charlton Athletic, whilst also in trouble with the law over speeding convictions. In a promising turn around, McKenzie turned to boxing to follow in the footsteps of his father to become a professional and make his presence known on the domestic scene.
McKenzie is still undefeated and now has been given the chance to face Jahmaine Smyle for the English Supermiddle Weight Title. A very encouraging story from a man who’s entire career has been in the face of the media! Best of luck to McKenzie in his attempt of mirroring his fathers footsteps.
