There’s lots of talk about him being one of the most avoided heavyweights in the world, I don’t disagree but poor promotion could may come into the question. Ortiz is a 37 year old Cuban Heavyweight who could probably have signed to someone stronger, a lot lot earlier.
The Cuban monster, sometimes the career killer or the boogieman, has never been defeated. In his 25 victories,24 have been by way of knockout and only one has ever gone the distance. That was in the first handful of fights in his professional career, there was another KO wins to his record but were later overturned due to failing a drugs test.
His name has been thrown into the mix a lot more recently after his two destruction victories against Bryant Jennings and Tony Thompson. Jennings took Klitschko the distance and Tony Thompson is often remembered for those two knockout victories against David Price that were later overturned due to a failed drugs test, similar to Ortiz.
Ortiz has been boxing since he was 13. A strong amateur career and a dangerous professional career has blossomed over the last few years and his recent sign with Matchroom sports is a big move from Eddie Hearn. He will be fighting tonight against Malik Scott and fighting on the undercard of Anthony Joshua V Eric Molina on December 10th.
Tonight he is expected to deal with Scott on the headline fight in Monaco pretty easily in hope to impress, giving him a strong chance of chasing the fight with Anthony Joshua or Deontay Wilder next year.
