Since Kell Brook has announced he will be returning to 147lbs and defending his IBF Welterweight Title, talk has been when and where he will face his mandatory challenger the dangerous undefeated Errol Spence Jr. Spence has looked ferocious on his road to his mandatory spot and I’m surprised Brook will take this fight.
After winning a unanimous decision against Jessie Vargas for the WBO Welterweight Title, Manny Pacquiao received an instant offer to unify the division from Brook via Twitter. This was met with a lot of responses telling him to stop avoiding Errol Spence and give him the mandatory spot he has earned. Spence is the last person Brook wants as a mandatory, I’m not surprised he is chasing a unification clash for bigger money as a fight against Spence is once again, very high risk and low reward.
I doubt Kell Brook will leave the UK for this fight despite the money being out in america. Home advantage and being on a Matchroom card is exactly what Brook will be needing as this will be his biggest test yet at 147lbs. Since beating Shawn Porter for the IBF belt, Kell Brook’s opposition when defending his belt has been poor and he has dispatched of them quite nicely. However since his stoppage loss in September to Gennady Golovkin, there is question around whether his broken eye socket will be able to hold up against Brook without testing it in a tune up fight.
Knowing Brook probably wont leave the UK for this fight, Spence has said he will travel to the UK but the fight is looking to go to purse bids and the date and venue is still to be announced.
