Canadian based WBC Light Heavyweight Champion and Lineal Champion will be all eyes on this Saturday’s super fight between Sergey Kovalev and Andre Ward. Stevenson will be ringside and will be watching very eagerly as the winner of this fight will most likely be coming for Stevenson to become the undisputed Light Heavyweight Champion.
Stevenson has come under a lot of criticism of his choice of opponents recently. He has been chased by Kovalev and his management team for a while but due to difficulty with TV rights and coming to an agreement in regards to financials, there has been no progress made but after this Saturday there will be no running any longer!
Even though Stevenson has quietly faded away from being one of the key men in the division, that WBC belt and Lineal status will always be what everyone wants to his name has always floated around the mix. Despite the lack of dangerous opposition he has faced, he still cannot be discredited on his punching power and the way he dispatches of his opponents in devastating fashion.
Kovalev and Stevenson have not seen eye to eye for a while and when Kovalev stopped Pascal in their rematch, he called out Stevenson whilst in the ring calling him “Adonis Chickenson”. A Fight between Kovalev and Stevenson would be a much more exciting clash of styles with both men looking for a knockout finish. A fight with Andre Ward would still bring massive media attention but there wouldn’t be as much of an exciting fight for sure and the bad blood with Kovalev certainly would be more entertaining to watch.
Adonis Stevenson has been undefeated for almost half of his career now and he has progressed more and more, with a memorable night when he knocked out current WBC Cruiserweight Champion Tony Bellew within six rounds.
