This weekend is a big weekend for the boys over at Boxnation with Frank Warren putting on two shows this weekend. A Friday show headlined by Bradley Skeete, and on the Saturday Billy Joe Saunders tops the bill in a huge show in Cardiff in his return after having almost a year out.
On Friday Bradley Skeete takes on John Thain in his first defence of his British Welterweight Title. He comes in as a 1/14 favourite with the bookmakers against a not very known opponent in Thain. On this undercard features Lee Markham take on Andrew Robinson for the English Middleweight Title, and Boy Jones Jr takes on Martin Hillman for the Southern Area Super Featherweight Title.
In Cardiff is a huge bill this saturday, featuring some big names in the Boxnation stable. Liam Williams takes on Ahmet Patterson in his second defence of his British Super Welterweight Title with his most recent defence stopping Gary Corcoran earlier this year. Terry Flanagan is also on the bill defending his WBO Lightweight Title against Puerto Rican Orlando Cruz. This seems like another easy fight for Flanagan with his true potential behind held back due to a poor run of matchmaking.
And after winning the belt almost a year ago, Billy Joe Saunders returns and makes his first defence of his WBO Middleweight Title after having a year of inactivity due to failed fights and injuries.
The WBO have ordered Saunders to have two mandatory defences before he tries going elsewhere due to his inactivity this year. There was many names thrown into the mix for him to fight but none of them were finalised and instead he was set to face Max Bursak however pulled out with Injury. He was then set to face on the undercard of Tyson Fury v Wladimir Klitschko 2 before the fight fell through and was then moved to November 26th to join the other Boxnation fighters in a big Cardiff card.
His opponent, Artur Akavov is relatively unknown and Saunders will be coming in the big favourite. Expected to deal with him in an easy nights work, Saunders is going to be eyed up by a lot of fighters this Saturday with one of them definitely being Unified Middleweight Champion Gennady Golovkin, to which Saunders holds the only belt left in the division that he hasn’t got. Tom Stalker and Craig Evans also meet for the third time on Saturday after the first two fights ended in a draw.
Boxnation will also be showing Vasyl Lomachenko v Nicholas Walters live from across the pond in Las Vegas, where Lomachenko will put his WBO Super Featherweight on the line against unbeaten Jamaican fighter Walters who will bring incredible power to the fight with a high KO ratio.
