IBF Super Middleweight Champion takes on WBC Super Middleweight Champion Badou Jack in Brooklyn on January 14th in a unification clash. DeGale is not overlooking his opponent by all means, this is a very tough challenge with the bookmakers having DeGale as the favourite, but I think its very much an even fight.
DeGale has said that if he comes through successfully then a fight with Andre Ward is something he will be chasing. A unified Super Middleweight against the former unified Super Middleweight champion and current Light Heavyweight champion would be a massive show down. Andre ward is still undefeated after his performance last weekend ending Sergey Kovalev’s unbeaten run and taking his belts, and DeGale’s only career loss coming by a points decision defeat to George Groves. DeGale feels Ward could still make Super Middleweight and a fight between the two would be quite easily made.
Back in 2013 when DeGale picked up Ward’s IBF belt, the two were in talks with a potential clash but talks fell through and Ward took a three year break from the sport. DeGale says he only wants the big fights now, he either wants Golovkin or he wants Andre Ward. His manager Al Haymon has thrown a few big names at him, and he should be seen in some blockbuster fights in 2017.
