On December 10th Anthony Joshua will making his second defence of his IBF Heavyweight Title against Eric Molina and a very important person may be ringside to watch the drama unfold. Wladimir Klitschko and AJ have been sanctioned by the WBA for a super fight in 2017 and hes expected to be all eyes peeled come fight night.
Wladimir was set to face Tyson Fury in a rematch earlier on this year but the fight fell through when Fury had his licence removed after admitting to cocaine use and drinking heavily. At the time there was still no opponent named to face Joshua so calls flew in to Eddie Hearn to make the fight between the two. Hearn had reached out to Klitschko’s promoter and the fight negotiations seemed to be going quite smoothly until Klitshcko pulled out of the talks due to an injury, however the fight seems to be going ahead for 2017 for Joshua’s IBF Heavyweight title and what will be the vacant WBA Super Heavyweight Title.
Hearn has said that Klitschko is likely to be ringside on the night, and providing all goes well with Joshua, the date and venue will be announced for the 2017 mega fight. Having a figure as important as Klitschko there on the night will certainly make Joshua feel like he has to put in a blistering performance as his last fight against Dominic Breazeale showed potential flaws in the undefeated fighters game plan.
Unsure yet where the fight is likely to be held, Joshua has welcomed Klitschko ringside and says he wont feel off put by his presence as he has a job to do in the ring and that’s all hes focused on. However old you think Klitschko may be, and the performance against Fury certainly was poor, I still feel coming into this fight Klitschko is the slight favourite as anyone with good head movement and great footwork will bring major trouble for Joshua.
