The WBC have now confirmed that undefeated British Super Middleweight Champion Callum Smith will face the winner of Badou Jack v James DeGale. Smith is the mandatory for Badou Jack’s green and gold strap and has officially been granted the shot at the winner.
Smith is one of the four smith brothers, the only four brothers to have held British titles each. He returns next week on the undercard of Anthony Joshua v Eric Molina against Luke Blackledge, coming in the fight at 1/100 odds on favourite. If James DeGale was victorious in unifying the Super Middleweight division, a bout against Callum Smith would be huge on British territory.
Realistically, Callum is the families last shot at a world title. Paul Smith Jr is over the hill and fighting in four rounders against bums, Steven Smith has come up short on two attempts now and not even at the best in the division, Liam Smith got beaten by Mexican star Canelo Alvarez in a division of extremely talented champions, so Callum is riding the hopes high. You can see him defend his British title against Blackledge on December 10th coming in at 1/100 favourite for £16.95
