Yesterday David Haye and Tony Bellew met at the press conference for their March 4 2017 fight on Sky Box Office. There was a lot to take in whilst watching this hectic presser, the main talking point being ‘the punch’ Haye threw at Bellew when Bellew got in his face.

The press conference started with an immediate outburst from Haye, taking the verbal fight to Bellew’s promoter Eddie Hearn. Unexpected and unhinged, Haye let loose giving some home truths to Hearn and made reference to this difference between him as a promoter, and his father Barry Hearn the ex promoter for Chris Eubank senior.

He then also hurled abuse at Bellew’s trainer Dave Coldwell, referring back to when Coldwell used to carry Haye’s kit to the changing room and now hes Bellew’s head coach. Haye lost his head and seemed absolutely rattled, the side of Haye we haven’t seen since the Chisora days.

Bellew responded by criticizing the level of opposition David Haye has faced since his return to boxing. After a 3 year hiatus Haye returned to the ring to face Australian fighter Mark De Mori and undefeated Swiss fighter Arnold Gjergjaj. Both of which nobody had heard off and the criticism from fans was huge.

Bellew said how he had been conning the public and robbing the fans of their money after paying to see a former unified cruiserweight champion and heavyweight champion face to unknown fighters had never defeated anyone in any of the governing bodies rankings.

Tony then referred to Haye’s attempt at the hands of Ukrainian heavyweight Wladimir Klitschko where he lost by unanimous decision over in Germany. Haye’s performance was pretty abysmal as he spent the majority of the fight falling to the floor trying to claim he was being pushed, he then also claimed that the reason he lost was due to a broken toe.

The war of words went back and forth throughout the entire presser with not much actually being heard. It was a media outlet’s dream and there will need much promotion at all as the pair have already done that after their bust up at the head to head.

When coming head to head, Bellew pushed Haye and in return Haye caught him with a lightning quick left hand to Bellew’s jaw followed by a handful of bald men intervening. The British Boxing Board of Control have said they will be investigating this as this type of behavior is not acceptable.

Haye is no stranger to a controversial press conference. Back in 2012 there was an enormous bust up after the post fight press conference between Vitali Klitschko and Dereck Chisora. With Haye’s trainer Adam Booth being glassed, You can see the video here – www.youtube.com/watch?v=MWQs8nMsZNg
