Tonight sees Denis Shafikov take on Richard Commey in an eliminator for the IBF Lightweight Title, held by Robert Easter Jr. Shafikov does come in at the slight bookies favourite, but the Ghanaian fighters comes in with a record of 24-1-0 (22ko’s) and certainly brings a lot of power.

Shafikov will step into the ring with a record of 37-2-1 (20ko’s) under trainer Abel Sanchez, the trainer of Gennady Golovkin, Andy Ruiz Jr and Murat Gassiev who also fights in Russia this weekend against Denis Lebedev. Shafikov has come up short in his two world title shots, one against Miguel Vazquez and one against Rances Barthelemy.

This is where tonight’s bout will be held and it certainly will be some close up actions for the fans that are ringside in a very small venue, The Tough Fight Gym in Moscow. Whoever comes through this fight tonight will be in like for a shot at Easter Jr, a challenger that saw Commey come up short at earlier this year to suffer his first professional loss.

The Lightweight division is an exciting one, with WBA and WBC diamond champion Jorge Linares, WBC champion Dejan Zlaticanin taking on Mikey Garcia (great fight) WBO champion Terry Flanagan and IBF holder Robert Easter Jr. Ismael Barroso is also looking to make his return next year and despite his loss to Anthony Crolla, he is still an exciting fighter to watch.
