Joseph Parker beats Andy Ruir Jr by a majority decision in what turned out to be an incredibly close fight. Neither men ever looked completely comfortable but also both never looked like they were going to hit the deck. Ruiz size was massively overlooked as he came forward for twelve rounds looking like he had a great gas tank for a man of 116kgs.
Both fighters plodded along the majority of the fight but Parker being on home soil was always going to get the nod. The results were very fair and it’s good to see Parker didn’t walk away with a 116-111 type scorecard but the right man won on the night.

New Zealand has a Heavyweight champion now and there will be many eyes looking in feeling like they could beat Parker on tonight’s performance.
Hughie Fury will be in line to face Parker in 120 days and you can’t help but think the Fury camp are watching on at this fight feeling quite comfortable. Overall though a very fair fight but not one of much excitement, however it’s good to have some fresh young talent on the world stage.
