Last year the WBC had sanctioned Alexander Povetkin to face Deontay Wilder for the Americans belt, in which leading up to the fight Povetkin failed a drugs test for a banned substance, and the fight was cancelled.
Time went on and inturn Wilder successfully defended his WBC belt against Chris Arreola and the board sanctioned Povetkin V Stiverne for the chance to become the mandatory challenger for Wilder’s belt, the belt that Stiverne lost to Deontay last year.
Only what seemed to be a month or two ago did Stiverne fail a drugs test for a banned substance and the fight was still allowed to go ahead, but he would be fined, however!!!! Today, hours before the fight it’s been revealed that Povetkin has failed ANOTHER drugs test.

It was the same drug that Lucian Bute failed a test for after his draw with Badou Jack, which was banned by the board in 2008. The WBC have officially removed their sanctioning for the fight so the mandatory spot will not be on the line.
Stiverne in turn has said he will not fight Povetkin and he will be flying home. He sees no point in taking a fight with someone that’s failed a drugs test, also I strongly feel that Povetkin should serve a life time ban from the sport. In a combat spot as dangerous as this, there is no room for drug cheats.
