On November 21 2015 four weight world champion and Puerto Rican boxing legend Miguel Cotto lost to Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez by unanimous decision over in Las Vegas. A year and two month later he makes his return against James Kirkland on Pay Per View.

Since that night back in November, Canelo has gone on to face Amir Khan and Liam Smith, both underwhelming fighters considering the potential clashes Canelo could have had.

Cotto knows his time is up and he is chasing the biggest paydays possible. What once was one of the most marketable fighters on the planet,is now chasing the big boys in the middleweight divisions as time has moved on and there is now new superstars in town.

Knowing this and knowing his value, the only options he has left to secure a few paydays is against either undefeated Khazak monster Gennady Golovkin, or a rematch with Canelo Alvarez, and he seems to be targeting the latter.

“It was close,” Cotto said. “We orchestrated the plan in a perfect way and we believe that were the winners of the fight.”

“Our last fight was I thought a very controversial decision,” Roach said. “I thought we won that fight.”

“I love that fight,” Roach said. “I think they owe us that, the Canelo camp. I thought we won the first time, but we’ll change things a little bit in the second one. But we’ll look forward to that later on.” – Quotes from Cotto & His trainer Freddie Roach.
