Undefeated WBO Middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders, 24-0-0 has today announced that he’s lost the buzz for boxing, and is thinking about leaving the sport on top.
It comes months after a fellow friend of his, Tyson Fury has also dropped out of the sport due to a ban but more importantly down to problems outside of the ring. Both Saunders and Tyson seem to get extremely out of shape whilst they aren’t in action and Saunders has recently shown the same.
Coming off a rapid weight loss when he beat Russian fighter Artur Akavov by a close decision at the end of last year, Saunders know’s there is no more tune up fights and he will have to face either Canelo Alvarez or Gennady Golovkin at some point this year.
We have all seen Saunders inactivity and increase in weight over 2016 but maybe his heart isn’t in it anymore since struggling to beat Akavov. Saunders is still only young and it would be an incredibly disappointing career to throw away but he appears to have been paid by his promoter Frank Warren extremely well over the years and is not in need of the money.
