Former WBO Super Welterweight champion Liam Smith is inches away from a fight with Liam Williams, the unbeaten British super welterweight champion and winner of the young fighter award for 2016.
The last time we saw Liam Smith in action he took a battering from Canelo Alvarez and in the end the size and power was nothing ‘Beefy’ could match up to in his opponent. He has however increased his stock and made a name for himself, and a fight between these two would be an absolute domestic belter.
The official announcement is looking likely to becoming in the next few days on a date and venue, however its rumored to be penciled in for April 8, with some other big Boxnation fighters on the card.
A fight between these two would be an absolute killer, Williams is an undefeated British champion who is fighting his way onto the world stage, and Smith is a fighter in the same division who recently lost the thing Williams is chasing.
The pair meeting in the middle and battling it out could be one of the domestic fights of the year, with both bringing a decent crowd and a good atmosphere, this could be the one to watch. An incredibly wise move for Frank Warren’s first show with BT Sport’s as there is some serious competition heating up throughout the industry.
It is looking likely that the pair will face off on the undercard of Billy Joe Saunders second defense of his WBO middleweight title which he has held for over a year now. We last saw Saunders when he scraped a points victory against a tricky Russian fighter Artur Akavov.
Also expected on the bill is WBO Lightweight champion Terry Flanagan, making his fifth defense of his title as he lines up some big potential clashes in the division with the likes of Jorge Linares, Mikey Garcia, Dejan Zlaticanin, Anthony Crolla & Robert Easter Jr hunting down the titles.
Frank Warren’s latest prospect signing is also expected to be on the card, 19-year-old cruiserweight fighter Daniel Dubois.
